FreeCMS is a free online content management system. Its core purpose is to allow a person with little or no web development knowledge to update content (text, images, videos, etc) on a website created by somebody with web design knowledge.
The ability for non-designers to update website content is useful in a number of situations. One common situation is when a web designer includes this as part of the services they offer potential clients. It gives more control to the client which can put the prospective designer above other competing designers.
Another common situation is within a large organization. It allows IT staff to create a website and let those with the business knowledge maintain the content of the site.
An Administrator in FreeCMS is anyone responsible for setting up a website to use FreeCMS. This includes configuring access to a website and granting permissions to edit the website. Usually this is a web designer.
A web designer uses FreeCMS to give non-technical users the ability to edit content on a website. The Editors can edit the content by logging into FreeCMS directly.
An Editor in FreeCMS is anyone responsible for editing content on a website. Editor accounts are created by a Designer and the content they have permission to edit is defined by a Designer. Usually an Editor is a non-technical person such as a business owner or business analyst.
An Editor can either edit content by logging into FreeCMS.com.
There is only a 'Free' account with FreeCMS. If you find that the free account doesn't provide enough functionality, you can purchase additional add ons to give you additional functionality.
